Mapping Carifesta Archives
A comprehensive and interactive map of Carifesta collections worldwide

Welcome to the website of the Mapping Carifesta Archives project, an initiative to bring together and make accessible the dispersed records of Carifesta, the Caribbean Festival of Arts.

Why Mapping?

Carifesta, a cultural festival that brings together the arts of the Caribbean, does not have a single, unified archive. Instead, its records are scattered across various institutions, libraries, and personal collections worldwide. This map aims to provide transparency and accessibility to these dispersed records, highlighting the richness and breadth of Carifesta's history.

Filter Options

By Festival Edition: Use the checkboxes to filter the map by specific editions of Carifesta from 1972 to 2017. Select or deselect all options to view the archives for the festivals of interest.

By Online Availability: Choose between viewing collections available online, on-site, or both.

By Repository Type: Filter by different types of repositories, such as national libraries or university archives.

Cluster Markers: Zoom in on cluster markers to see individual archive locations. Each marker represents a repository holding Carifesta-related materials.

Location Details: Click on a marker to view detailed information about the repository, including the type of materials available and how to access them.

Limitations and Scope

While digital tools have made it easier to locate and access Carifesta materials, they also have limitations. Not all archives are digitized, and not all digital records are complete or accurate. This map strives to balance the ease of digital access with the depth of physical archives, offering a comprehensive view of the Carifesta archival landscape.
